Annual SNAP October Update

Every year on October 1st, the federal government adjusts SNAP (food stamp) benefits to reflect changes in the cost of living and other important factors. Key changes:

Maximum Monthly Benefit Amounts: The highest amount a household can receive in SNAP benefits is updated. This amount depends on the size of your household.
Income Eligibility Standards: The income limits used to determine eligibility for SNAP benefits are updated based on changes in the federal poverty guidelines.
Deductions: Certain deductions, like the standard deduction and shelter cost deduction, which can reduce your countable income, are also updated.

Update Our SNAP calculator has been updated with the new SNAP numbers for October 2026, with the exception of utility allowances for some states which have not been posted. Typically, we are able to estimate the updated utility allowances for 90%+ of states. We are actively searching for the newest numbers and will update the screener as soon as states release the newest numbers publicly.

For households getting SNAP in 48 states in DC, maximum benefits went up by about $7-$8 per person. Changes will vary a lot depending on your state, whether you are currently receiving the maximum or miniumum benefit, and expenses, but as a general estimate, benefits would likely increase by about $8 per person, plus an additional $8 for the household due to increase standard deductions and utility allowances.
